Odaily reported, citing Axios, that Trump said a forthcoming memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran would require the Strait of Hormuz to resume navigation immediately and without charging transit fees. Under the document, the United States would gradually grant sanctions waivers on the condition that Iran fulfills its commitments. The report said Washington and Tehran have agreed on the text of the deal, though it still requires final approval.
Ceasefire extension, nuclear talks and shipping terms
The proposed agreement would extend the ceasefire for 60 days, with the scope covering Lebanon, and would use that period to advance nuclear negotiations. The memorandum includes a framework for handling Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium. Iran commits not to seek nuclear weapons, while the specific nuclear arrangements still need to be implemented through a more detailed follow-up agreement.
The document also requires the Strait of Hormuz to return to prewar shipping levels within 30 days. In exchange, the United States would lift related blockade measures and allow Iran to resume oil exports for a defined period. If Iran continues to comply and shows “good faith” in subsequent negotiations, the scope of sanctions waivers would be expanded further.
