U.S. forces launched a military operation against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) inside Iran, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed. The strikes began at 12 p.m. ET on September 1, 2026 (midnight Beijing time on September 2), according to a post by financial news account Walter Bloomberg citing CENTCOM.
This marks one of the rare instances of direct U.S. military action on Iranian soil, signaling a sharp escalation in the conflict between the two countries.

CENTCOM stated that the operation was a necessary response to recent IRGC attempts to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and to threaten U.S. service members deployed in the region.
