U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is preparing to introduce the "American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act," which would impose a one-time 50% equity tax on the largest artificial intelligence companies operating in the United States. Under the proposed legislation, the collected shares would be transferred into a newly established national sovereign wealth fund. The fund would then distribute the accrued wealth from the AI sector — which Sanders estimates to be in the trillions of dollars — directly to the American public through mechanisms including cash dividends, healthcare subsidies, educational grants, and housing assistance.
Sanders argues that the transformative economic value generated by artificial intelligence should not be concentrated in the hands of a few technology corporations and their shareholders. He indicated that the full text of the bill will be released in the coming weeks. At present, the proposal remains in the early policy initiative phase, and there is considerable uncertainty regarding its path to legislative approval and eventual implementation.
