Institutional Retreat: Six Weeks of Net Outflows from Spot Bitcoin ETFs
The US spot Bitcoin ETF market is experiencing a significant capital exodus. Data shows that ETFs have recorded net outflows for six consecutive weeks, totaling approximately $6 billion. Among them, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) is the primary source of outflows, indicating that institutional capital is undergoing a concentrated reduction.
The main sellers in this round are institutional funds allocated through brokerage accounts, not long-term holders or retail investors. This means the retreat is led by professional asset managers and trading-oriented capital, rather than Bitcoin believers.
On the macro front, multiple pressures are at play: US inflation data is rebounding, raising expectations of further rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. At the same time, AI infrastructure buildouts and new IPO projects are absorbing large amounts of capital, causing risk assets to be prioritized for reduction. The ETF channel has thus transitioned from an entry gateway to an exit route, leaving the market facing a lack of buying power and weak spot support.
Analysts note that if institutional outflows continue, Bitcoin prices may face downward pressure in the short term. However, the steady holdings of long-term investors still provide some buffer. Future market direction will depend on macro policy changes and the movement of institutional capital.
