Vietnam-based tech firm HHP and Singapore blockchain company EFGH have announced the formation of a joint venture, VNL1, with an $8 million investment to deploy a blockchain-based commodity traceability infrastructure in Vietnam. The venture will operate as an Ethereum Layer 2 settlement network, designed to enhance regulatory compliance for product identification, verification, and traceability.

VNL1: Ethereum Layer 2 for Commodity Traceability

VNL1 will function as a dedicated Ethereum Layer 2 network, processing traceability-related transactions and data on-chain. By leveraging Ethereum mainnet's security and Layer 2's high throughput and low fees, the system will provide end-to-end traceability for agricultural goods, manufactured products, and other commodities from production to distribution. The project aims to meet transparency requirements from Vietnamese and international regulators, reduce counterfeiting risks, and boost consumer trust.

Five Digital Projects on the Horizon

In addition to the traceability infrastructure, HHP and EFGH signed framework agreements for five digital projects: V-Fintech (fintech), V-TOK (tokenized assets), V-ICEX (international commodity exchange), GDCAI (AI and data governance), and V-FIT (digital identity and authentication). These projects will interconnect via VNL1's Layer 2 network, creating an integrated digital ecosystem combining blockchain, fintech, and AI.

Strategic Implications: Accelerating Blockchain Adoption in Vietnam

The $8 million investment marks a significant step for Southeast Asia's blockchain industry in the realm of physical asset traceability. Vietnam, as a major exporter of agriculture and manufacturing goods, has strong demand for traceability solutions. The partnership between HHP and Singapore's EFGH is expected to bring advanced Ethereum Layer 2 technology into Vietnam's real economy, offering local enterprises low-cost, high-efficiency digital solutions. This development also underscores Ethereum's expanding role in the $65 billion real-world asset (RWA) market, where it already commands a 41% share in tokenized stocks. VNL1 is poised to further cement Ethereum's position as a core infrastructure for RWA applications.

The joint venture expects to complete technical development and enter a pilot phase within the next 12 months. With VNL1's launch, Vietnam could emerge as a leading showcase for blockchain-based traceability in Southeast Asia, driving digital transformation in regional supply chains.
