BlockBeats reported on Aug. 4, citing TradingBeats, formerly Hyperinsight, that a whale address starting with 0xaa53 bought Lumentum (LITE) twice just before the asset entered faster upside moves.
By 18:00 on the day, Reuters, citing people familiar with the matter, said the Trump administration was drafting measures to restrict imports of new data-center optical modules from China. The report specifically said U.S. manufacturers Coherent and Lumentum could be potential beneficiaries. Before the market saw that possible sector tailwind, the whale had already completed its second round of buying, with a combined position of about $1.648 million largely in place.
Position value reached about $2.117 million
At press time, the whale was holding a 10x isolated long with a position value of about $2.117 million, an average entry price of $676.1 and a liquidation price of $642.4. Unrealized profit had expanded to about $468,000, and the reported return had risen to 284.1%.
Measured against the full price swing, the trader captured roughly two-thirds of this 48.8% rebound. Execution records showed 139 buy trades in LITE, with no sale of the position during the period and no take-profit or reduction orders placed for LITE.
Two rounds of buying came before the rally accelerated
The whale first entered on the evening of July 30, buying a total of 1,897.9 LITE in about two hours. The notional amount was about $1.27 million, and the average price was $669.2. The first fill was as low as $636.5, after which LITE quickly climbed to around $696 that same night.
Between the late afternoon and evening of Aug. 3, the whale added again, purchasing 540 LITE at an average price of $700.5 and deploying about $378,000. After that second accumulation was completed, LITE extended higher on Aug. 4 and touched an intraday high of $874.3.
LITE last traded at $868.2
LITE was last quoted at $868.2, up 23.3% over the past 24 hours. Since the phase low of $583.5 on July 30, it has rebounded 48.8% in total. The hourly funding rate was about +0.00384%.
As additional context, Lumentum is scheduled to report fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter and full-year results after the U.S. market close on Aug. 11 Eastern Time, and it will hold a conference call at 17:00 ET that day, which is 05:00 Beijing time on Aug. 12.
