World (formerly Worldcoin) has announced the beta launch of Agentkit, a developer toolkit developed in collaboration with the x402 protocol — an initiative by Coinbase and Cloudflare. Agentkit allows AI agents to provide cryptographic proof of human identity through World ID, tackling the growing trust gap as automation takes over more consumer tasks. By integrating identity with payments, the toolkit enables a 'trust stack' where agents can both transact and prove they are backed by a verified person.
Predictions suggest agentic commerce could hit $5 trillion globally by 2030, with agents handling 25% of U.S. e-commerce. However, platforms struggle to distinguish helpful consumer agents from malicious bot swarms. While older solutions like x402 used micropayments to limit bots, payments alone can't prove uniqueness — a single actor could fund thousands of bots. Agentkit solves this by issuing a 'proof of unique human' signal, allowing platforms to set limits based on real people rather than agent count.
How Agentkit Works
Verifed users delegate their World ID to their AI agents, creating a 'human-backed agent' that cryptographically proves its legitimacy to websites and APIs without revealing the user's identity. This ensures platforms can verify a real person stands behind the wallet, even as agents act autonomously. Erik Reppel, head of engineering at Coinbase Developer Platform and founder of x402, said: 'Payments are the 'how' of agentic commerce, but identity is the 'who'. By integrating World ID with the x402 protocol, developers now have a complete trust stack.'
Use Cases: From Ticketing to Digital Services
Agentkit could transform high-friction industries. In ticketing and reservations, platforms can ensure concert tickets or dinner tables are secured by real fans rather than scalper networks. For digital services, free trials can be allocated per unique human, preventing abuse via multiple emails or wallets. Future iterations may support zero-knowledge proof signals for age or residency, sharing only necessary data while protecting privacy.
DC Builder, a research engineer at World Foundation, said: 'The key challenge is separating legitimate, human-backed agents from bot swarms. Proof of human addresses this gap by allowing websites to verify that an agent represents a unique person without revealing who that person is.'
The beta release follows World's rebrand from Worldcoin and its mainnet launch. By coupling identity with payments via Coinbase's x402, Agentkit lays foundational trust infrastructure for the agentic economy.
