Tapping a $BTC tag in a tweet now shows real-time price, market cap, percentage change, and a live feed of related posts. X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out Smart Cashtags, turning social conversations into financial dashboards. Product lead Nikita Bier announced the feature will support cryptocurrencies, stocks, and tokens, including Bitcoin, Solana tokens, Berkshire Hathaway, BONK, and Base.
How It Works: Beyond Basic Search
Previously, clicking a cashtag only returned search results. Now it triggers a panel with four data points: live price, market cap, percent change, and a post feed about the same asset. The team is gathering user feedback and plans a public launch next month. This lets crypto investors check prices without leaving the app.
CZ's Reaction and Trading Possibilities
Former Binance CEO CZ reposted a media update suggesting X plans to introduce in-app Bitcoin and token trading. With 700 million monthly active users, bridging price tracking with instant trading would be a massive leap. It aligns with Elon Musk's vision of X as an "everything app" combining payments, trading, and communication.
Industry Impact: Speed and Visibility
Smart Cashtags lower the barrier for newcomers to access on-chain data. Users can now compare market sentiment with price movement in one place — if posts are bullish but prices drop, the disconnect becomes obvious. For projects, token tags could boost social exposure and searchability. Nikita Bier stressed the feature is still in feedback stage; final details may shift. If integrated with trading tools, X could become the world's largest real-time financial information hub.
