Animoca Brands co-founder and chairman Yat Siu said at the SuperAI summit in Singapore that Asia’s more open attitude toward money will help drive the convergence of AI and blockchain. He argued that truly autonomous AI needs the ability to transact independently, with blockchain serving as the secure infrastructure for that demand.

According to TechFlow, citing Fortune on June 15, Animoca Brands co-founder and chairman Yat Siu spoke at the SuperAI summit in Singapore about the convergence of AI and blockchain. Siu said that, compared with the West’s artificial separation between crypto and AI, Asia has a more open attitude toward money and is therefore positioned to move ahead in bringing the two fields together.

Autonomous AI and On-chain Transactions

Siu said that for AI to become truly autonomous, it must be able to conduct transactions on its own. In his view, blockchain is the underlying technology capable of supporting this need safely and at large scale. His comments framed transaction capability as an essential part of AI agents’ operation, rather than a separate feature outside their core functions.

He predicted that as many as 200 billion AI agents will eventually be in operation. Siu also compared on-chain transaction costs with traditional credit card fees, saying that blockchain transaction costs are close to zero, while credit cards charge a 2.5% fee. Based on that cost gap, he said traditional payment giants would struggle to maintain market share.
