YZi Labs took part in BitGo’s IPO as a strategic institutional investor, adding a crypto-native name to the custody firm’s public market debut. BitGo started trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday under the ticker BTGO and finished its first session with a 2.72% gain. YZi Labs did not disclose the size of its investment, but said regulated crypto infrastructure in the United States is becoming increasingly important as institutional capital moves into digital assets.
YZi Labs ties its bet to regulated U.S. rails
The announcement framed the investment around one central view: institutional money is moving toward the infrastructure layer that supports digital asset activity. YZi Labs, previously known as Binance Labs, pointed to BitGo’s regulated trust structure and its long security record as key reasons behind the move.
In its statement, YZi Labs said BitGo has gone for more than a decade without a security breach. YZi Labs President Ella Zhang linked that record to the technical background of BitGo CEO Mike Belshe. She described him as a “Bitcoin OG” and a pioneer of modern web architecture, citing his experience with Netscape and Google Chrome.
BitGo’s NYSE debut shows opening-day price discovery
BitGo’s first trading day featured an early jump, then a pullback before the close. The stock still ended in positive territory, and the session was characterized as a typical IPO pattern shaped by opening demand and price discovery.
BitGo is best known for institutional crypto custody, but its product set goes beyond safekeeping. The company also offers services including staking and stablecoin issuance. According to the figures cited in the announcement, BitGo secures about $82 billion on its platform and serves more than 5,100 institutional clients across over 100 countries.
BitGo calls the relationship more than capital
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe said YZi Labs’ participation should be viewed as more than financial backing. He described it as a partnership aimed at building “compliant and institutional-standard infrastructure.” In his account, the goal is to combine BitGo’s security approach with the global market reach associated with Binance and the BNB ecosystem, raising the bar for capital entering the sector.
