According to a disclosure by on-chain detective ZachXBT, the prediction market protocol Rain Protocol ($RAIN), which once boasted a market capitalization of nearly $8.8 billion, is facing severe risks. Through persistent on-chain address tracing, ZachXBT discovered that the Rain Protocol team’s source of funds is directly linked to the hot wallet of launchpad Gems. More alarmingly, the same addresses had previously transferred funds for the now-failed projects DOP and TOMI during the same period. This overlapping pattern of fund flows strongly suggests that there may be significant overlap among the teams behind these projects, sparking widespread community debate about Rain Protocol's true background.
Digging deeper, the investigation traced multiple projects—including TOMI, DOP, and Sirin Labs—all back to the controversial Israeli businessman Moshe Hogeg. Hogeg was detained in 2021 on suspicion of crypto fraud and was officially charged by Israeli police in 2023 for his alleged involvement in a $290 million cryptocurrency scam. This history casts a heavy cloud over Rain Protocol’s team credibility, raising fundamental doubts among investors about the project's compliance and long-term viability.
Suspected Token Manipulation and a Fragile Economic Backbone
Beyond the team-related issues, ZachXBT’s report unveiled even more critical problems at the economic level. The price of the RAIN token is suspected to have been manipulated on-chain, and its total value locked (TVL) consists almost entirely of its own highly illiquid native token, with virtually no real external assets. The protocol’s annual fee income stands at a mere $1 million, a staggering contrast to its nearly $8.8 billion market cap—a gap of over 800 times. Such extreme data imbalance is almost unimaginable in mature financial protocols and fundamentally negates any real foundation for its market valuation.
The Spreading Crisis in the Gems.vip Ecosystem
Additionally, Gems.vip—the launchpad that incubated the aforementioned projects—has been recently revealed to be gearing up for the presale of a new platform, Kai Platform. Meanwhile, the $162 million raised by the DOP project remains unaccounted for, and a growing flood of retail investor complaints in overseas communities is targeting the opacity of funds management. This development not only casts a shadow over Kai Platform’s upcoming presale but also severely dents Gems.vip’s own commercial reputation.
As of press time, Rain Protocol has not issued any public response to ZachXBT’s allegations. Known for repeatedly exposing major crypto scams, ZachXBT’s report carries considerable weight within the community. Should the situation escalate further, it could shake the trust foundation of the entire prediction market sector.
