Pakistan’s FIA sets up virtual currency investigation unit inside NC3

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency has created a virtual currency investigation unit within the newly launched National Cyber Crime and Control Center (NC3), according to Dawn. The unit will focus on cases involving money laundering and terror financing through virtual assets. An official from the counterterrorism wing said it will work with the newly formed Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, or PVARA, to investigate crimes tied to crypto assets. The official also urged the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency and the Anti-Narcotics Force to establish similar units to address the use of crypto assets in cybercrime and drug trafficking. At the same time, the FIA has integrated anti-money laundering operations, border entry and exit monitoring, and investigations into human trafficking and migrant smuggling within NC3, while pushing new rules and staff expansion to speed up case handling and improve coordination across enforcement functions.

BlackRock’s Korea ETF draws more than $2.8 billion in a record week, with roughly 25% allocated to SK Hynix

BlackRock’s iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY) recorded more than $2.8 billion in net inflows last week, setting a new weekly record and easily topping the fund’s previous high of $1.2 billion reached in February this year. Bloomberg data cited in the report also showed that about 25% of the ETF’s portfolio is allocated to SK Hynix, making the chipmaker a major holding in the vehicle. The broader flow picture was also strong for Korea-linked products. Investment products focused on South Korea pulled in $3.03 billion in net inflows last week, the highest total among all countries tracked in the data. Over the same period, U.S.-listed emerging-market ETFs posted $4.39 billion in net inflows, the strongest level since Feb. 27. Within that total, equity ETFs attracted $4.22 billion, while bond funds brought in $164 million.

Ethereum’s L1-L2 Recalibration Points to a Shared-Security, Multi-Execution Endgame

Ethereum’s scaling debate is moving past the old split between a secure-but-expensive Layer 1 and cheap execution on Layer 2. In an analysis published by imToken and carried by Foresight, the argument is that Ethereum is not abandoning L2s, but redefining what they are for as the main chain expands its own capacity through higher gas limits, statelessness work, wider data availability and zkEVM-related verification. In that setting, lower fees alone may no longer be enough to justify an L2 over the long run. The piece says value creation on L2 is likely to shift toward differentiated execution environments, including application-specific optimization, privacy features, and more flexible governance or economic designs. It also puts interoperability, native account abstraction and shorter finality at the center of Ethereum’s next phase, framing the goal as making the network “feel like one chain” again even as activity remains spread across many execution domains. It also highlights Ethereum researcher Barnabé Monnot’s view that, once proof systems become part of mainnet verification, Ethereum L1 could in some sense resemble its own rollup. The point is not that mainnet becomes an L2, but that execution and verification may separate in a way that blurs the old line between base layer and rollup.

Pakistan sets up crypto investigation unit as digital-asset push expands

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency has created a dedicated cryptocurrency investigation unit inside its newly operational National Command and Control Centre, adding an enforcement layer to the country’s broader move to formalize digital assets. The unit will focus on money laundering and terrorism financing involving virtual currencies, while the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority remains responsible for regulation. FIA Counter-Terrorism Wing Director Dr Muhammad Athar Waheed said the agency will examine criminal use of crypto and called on the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency and the Anti-Narcotics Force to establish similar units. The move comes as Pakistan accelerates crypto policy steps, including lifting an eight-year banking ban, advancing exchange licensing, and exploring tokenization of state assets, even as religious debate over whether crypto qualifies as permissible wealth under Islamic law remains unsettled.

Johor orders Network School to halt Malaysia operations and revokes Forest City business license

The Johor state government has revoked the Forest City business license of NS0 Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., the entity operating Network School in Malaysia, and ordered it to cease all operations starting July 22, according to a statement from Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. The state said the move followed enforcement inspections and legal procedures, adding that projects with investment backing would still face “zero tolerance” treatment if they breached licensing conditions, immigration rules, or raised security and sovereignty concerns. Johor also urged the Home Ministry, Immigration Department, police, and other security agencies to continue investigating possible misuse of second passports, false identity representations, and violations of entry requirements. In parallel, it asked the Digital Ministry and MDEC to review the project’s “Malaysia Digital” and related qualifications, while tightening due diligence and inter-agency coordination around foreign-backed entities, their funding sources, and operational narratives. Network School was launched by former Coinbase CTO and The Network State author Balaji Srinivasan as a paid co-living and coworking community for founders, engineers, creators, and digital nomads.
