RWA Weekly: Four Banks Move on a Global Stablecoin Alliance as Coinbase Brings Tokenized Stocks to Base

Real-world asset markets kept expanding during the Aug. 21 to Aug. 27 tracking window, with on-chain RWA market capitalization reaching $38.7 billion and total holders climbing to 2.952 million, according to the figures cited in the report. Stablecoins also grew in scale, with total market capitalization rebounding to $303.04 billion and monthly transfer volume rising 20.33% from a month earlier to $6.49 trillion, even as monthly active addresses slipped 1.24% to 52.87 million. The report described that split as a market where larger holders are rebalancing frequently while smaller users are staying on the sidelines. Regulatory developments came from three major jurisdictions. In the U.S., the Financial Accounting Standards Board proposed guidance on when some digital assets, including stablecoins, may qualify as cash equivalents under GAAP, with comments due by Nov. 19, 2026. In the U.K., the government is moving to give the Bank of England a secondary legal objective to support innovation in digital currency and payments. In Japan, regulators are preparing to ease limits on large-value stablecoin payments, potentially allowing single transactions above 1 million yen. On the corporate and product side, The Wall Street Journal reported that JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Santander are working toward a global stablecoin alliance. Coinbase has launched tokenized stocks natively on Base under its B20 standard, while Franklin Templeton, Bitwise, Bitfinex Securities, Revolut, Fasset and Entropy.io also posted fresh RWA and stablecoin developments.

GoPlus says Realio attack on Aug. 25 led to roughly $6.2 million in stolen RIO

GoPlus said Realio Network, a platform focused on RWA tokenized issuance and management, was attacked on Aug. 25 after its signing stack was compromised. The attacker drained treasury and custody wallets across five chains — Ethereum, BNB Chain, Algorand, Stellar and Realio’s native chain — stealing a total of 127.9 million RIO worth about $6.2 million. GoPlus added that around $317,000 has already been cashed out. According to GoPlus Security, the incident stemmed from misuse of the platform’s signing key rather than a smart contract flaw. It said realio[.]fund had been using a single hot signer to manage treasury, reserve funds and user custody subaccounts. Once that permission was obtained, the attacker could sign transfers directly across multiple chains without user approval and without re-keying. Realio said access to the platform has been suspended, and all inbound and outbound transfers for user wallets have been halted. The team said it is preparing a recovery plan, verifying the details of the incident, and will work with law enforcement to identify the attacker.

Realio Network says exploit led to theft of about 124.4 million RIO

Techub News reported that Realio Network was hit by a security exploit on Aug. 25, with hackers stealing about 124.4 million RIO tokens from wallets controlled by the platform. The attacker used a signing-function flaw in the realio.fund interface and moved assets across Ethereum, BNB Chain, Algorand, Stellar and Realio’s native chain. Realio said it has paused the native chain and web app access, while MEXC and KuCoin have suspended RIO deposits. The project also said it is working on a compensation plan, though no details have been released.

Crypto brands pull back from influencer deals as short-form video and fan edits gain ground

Crypto and fintech marketing teams are shifting money away from traditional paid influencer campaigns after conversion rates weakened sharply, according to executives cited in the report. Rhys McKay said one 2025 campaign spent $30,000 on a well-known creator to promote an exchange and produced just one registered user. He said the same playbook had generated positive returns in 2021 and 2022, when brands were willing to pay $40,000 for a single tweet and still see measurable results. The budget is now moving toward two cheaper formats: large-scale short-form clipping networks and unpaid fan-made edits. McKay said standard paid ads typically cost $20 to $80 per thousand views, while clipping distribution can run at $1 to $5 CPM. He added that Lumina Clippers works with 62,000 vetted clipping creators and 5,000 user-generated content producers across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Marketers cited two main trade-offs. Short-form native content can keep generating views long after a paid campaign ends, but direct conversion is hard to track. At the same time, unclear disclosure around paid clips and fan edits raises compliance concerns, echoing the promotional issues that previously led to a $1.26 million SEC penalty against Kim Kardashian.
