U.S. indexes split as crypto-linked stocks diverge and gold names climb
U.S. stocks ended mixed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.51%, the S&P 500 edging up 0.02%, and the Nasdaq slipping 0.18%, according to Techub. For July, the Dow was down 0.18%, the S&P 500 fell 0.94%, and the Nasdaq dropped more than 4%. Precious metals shares outperformed on the day. CDE, or Coeur Mining, rose more than 1%, while GOLD, or Barrick Gold, jumped more than 4%. Crypto-related equities showed a sharp split. Mining names moved lower across the board, with Cipher Mining falling 6.48%, Hut 8 down 4.91%, CleanSpark off 3.41%, MARA Holdings losing 2.89%, Riot Platforms down 2.49%, and Bit Brother slipping 1.46%. At the same time, exchange and crypto-concept stocks posted strong gains. Circle rose 5.28%, Coinbase added 5.81%, Strategy climbed 7.61%, and Bitmine surged 13.36%.
