Catalyst opens waitlist, RocX launches testnet, and SmartX starts second-round applications

Odaily’s Oct. 10 roundup highlighted three crypto interaction opportunities tied to Catalyst, RocX, and SmartX. Catalyst, an AI trading agent platform built for retail investors, said users can describe investment ideas and market views in natural language, after which its AI agents research information, build strategies, run backtests, monitor signals, and execute trades with user approval. The project also announced a $30 million seed round on Oct. 8 led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Jump Trading, PeakXV, Lux Capital, AntiFund, Coinbase, and Premji Invest. RocX, a DeFi platform built around Proof of Activity, said on Oct. 5 that its testnet is now live. Users can claim Base Sepolia testnet ETH, connect a wallet, bind an X account, check in daily for 100 points per check-in, and deposit testnet ETH through the platform. SmartX, described as a personalized social trading app covering meme assets, perpetual futures, stocks, and prediction markets, has opened the second round of its waitlist. The project was also listed among the 24 early-stage companies selected for YZi Labs’ EASY Residency Season 4, with each selected company receiving a $500,000 investment. SmartX said waitlist rankings depend on both join time and Boost, with referrals increasing Boost.

Sequoia Leads $30 Million Seed Round for Catalyst, an AI Trading Agent Startup Targeting Retail Users

Catalyst, a startup building AI trading agents for retail investors, has raised a $30 million seed round led by Sequoia Capital. Other backers in the round include Jump Trading, PeakXV, Lux Capital, AntiFund, Coinbase, and Premji Invest. The company was founded in 2025 by Justin Zheng, 25, and Dylan Iskandar, 21. Zheng previously joined Sam Altman’s Worldcoin, while Iskandar drew attention earlier in life for publishing a cybersecurity paper for the U.S. Department of Defense while still in high school. Catalyst says its main goal is to help ordinary users handle an increasingly complex financial market. Its product turns natural-language prompts into trading strategies and can execute them, though trades still require human confirmation at this stage. The startup’s longer-term vision is a workflow in which users only state their intent and the agent completes the trade from end to end. The funding round signals early investor backing for tools designed to lower the barrier to participation in advanced trading systems.
