Washington Post: U.S. European Command warned it lacks forces to keep defending Israel

According to The Washington Post, multiple officials said Alexus Grynkewich, the head of U.S. European Command, privately warned the Pentagon this week that he does not have enough naval power to keep protecting Israel from ballistic missile attacks. The warning pointed to the strain that the continuing Iran war is placing on U.S. military resources. Grynkewich said that without another Navy destroyer, he would be forced to choose between homeland defense in the United States and air and missile defense support for Israel. A U.S. defense official said the message was consistent with earlier notifications sent by senior military commanders to the Pentagon when they identified risks that required consideration at the U.S. level. The official added that such situations can emerge when combatant commanders compete for limited resources and weapons across different theaters.
