EdgeConneX2026-08-14 13:09:18EdgeConneX seeks up to $2.5 billion in power-cost guarantees for global data center buildoutEdgeConneX Inc., a data center operator backed by EQT, is seeking up to $2.5 billion in bank-backed power-cost guarantee capacity as it pushes ahead with global expansion plans, according to Bloomberg. The company is in talks with several lenders, including France’s Natixis and Spain’s BBVA, on a letter-of-credit financing arrangement designed to lock in electricity supply costs for data center projects. The move points to a shift in how AI infrastructure is being financed. As demand for AI training and inference keeps rising, data center construction has accelerated worldwide, bringing heavier pressure from power procurement costs and broader infrastructure spending. In that setting, operators are testing financing structures tied not only to real estate and equipment, but also to energy supply and long-term power contracts. EdgeConneX’s effort shows how electricity has become central to expansion planning. Large cloud companies and AI infrastructure firms have already stepped up data center investment in recent years, while access to power has emerged as a key constraint on scaling compute capacity. Bank credit support for future electricity costs is now becoming one path to fund that growth.1380
