Polymarket seeks fresh funding at a reported $20 billion valuation
Polymarket is seeking a new round of funding at a target valuation of $20 billion, according to a Tuesday Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter. The move comes only months after the prediction-market platform completed a financing round in April at a $15 billion valuation, with Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, investing $600 million. Polymarket previously told CNBC in June that its annualized revenue had surpassed $1 billion. The company’s trading activity dipped briefly in April and May before rebounding during the World Cup, when volumes hit a record high. Founder and CEO Shayne Coplan has continued to frame Polymarket as an information platform rather than a gambling site, saying prediction markets let users test their views with real money. Competition in the sector is also rising. Coinbase and Robinhood have added prediction-market features to their product lines, while rival platform Kalshi is reportedly pursuing a new fundraising round at a $40 billion valuation. The two companies operate with different structures: Kalshi runs a federally regulated exchange for event contracts, while Polymarket is built on blockchain infrastructure and settles trades in cryptocurrency.
