Russia bans crypto mining in parts of Moscow and Kursk until end-2032

Russia’s Energy Ministry has barred cryptocurrency mining and mining pool participation in parts of Moscow and the Kursk region under Government Decree No. 936, with the restriction set to remain in force through Dec. 31, 2032. The measure is designed to ease electricity capacity shortages, as officials said energy-intensive mining facilities have continued to put pressure on local power grids. Russia legalized registered mining in 2024, but rising power demand has since led authorities to impose similar restrictions in 10 other regions. CoinDesk was cited as the source for the report.
