Blockstream Unveils 2025 Expansion Plans: $210M Raise Spurs Mining Spin-Off, ASIC Split, Institutional Push, and Layer 2 Focus
Blockstream, a leader in Bitcoin financial infrastructure, has detailed its 2025 growth plans following a $210 million funding round led by Fulgur Ventures in October 2024. Key initiatives include spinning off Blockstream Mining (with Satellite) into an independent entity led by Chris Cook, separating the ASIC hardware division under Assaf Gilboa with a second funding round underway, and launching Blockstream Asset Management in February to serve institutional clients. The company also invested $75 million in custodian Komainu in January and continues to develop Layer 2 protocols like Liquid and Lightning. New self-custody product Jade Plus will be announced at Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas. Global expansion includes new offices in Tokyo and a research center in Lugano.
