Public Companies Reach New Bitcoin Treasury High in Q1 2025 as Corporate Accumulation Accelerates

A new Bitwise report shows that public-company Bitcoin adoption hit a record in Q1 2025. Publicly traded firms collectively held more than 688,000 BTC, up 16.11% quarter over quarter, equal to 3.28% of Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply. At a reference price of $82,445 per BTC, those holdings were worth more than $57 billion, while the number of public companies with Bitcoin on their balance sheets rose to 79, an increase of 17.91%, with 12 new entrants during the quarter. Bitwise links the acceleration in adoption to several factors, especially the FASB accounting change that lets companies report Bitcoin at fair market value, removing a major obstacle for CFOs and boards. Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, remained the dominant corporate buyer, purchasing $7.7 billion in Bitcoin in Q1 and later adding another 3,459 BTC worth $285.8 million, bringing total holdings to 531,644 BTC. Other major holders include MARA Holdings, Riot Platforms, CleanSpark, and Tesla. The report also highlights expansion plans from Metaplanet, Semler Scientific, and GameStop, suggesting that corporate demand for BTC may continue to build in the coming quarters.

Public Company Bitcoin Treasury Adoption Hit a New High in Q1 2025

Public company adoption of Bitcoin reached another milestone in Q1 2025, according to Bitwise. Publicly traded firms collectively held more than 688,000 BTC by the end of the quarter, up 16.11% from the previous quarter and equal to 3.28% of Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply. At a Bitcoin price of $82,445, those holdings were worth more than $57 billion. The number of public companies with Bitcoin on their balance sheets also increased to 79, with 12 new entrants joining during the quarter. Bitwise links this acceleration in corporate adoption to an important accounting change from the Financial Accounting Standards Board, which now allows companies to report Bitcoin at fair market value. That shift reduced a major barrier for CFOs and boards considering BTC as a reserve asset. Strategy remained the dominant corporate holder after buying $7.7 billion worth of Bitcoin in Q1 and later adding another 3,459 BTC worth $285.8 million, bringing its total to 531,644 BTC. Other large holders include MARA Holdings, Riot Platforms, CleanSpark, and Tesla. Meanwhile, Metaplanet, Semler Scientific, and GameStop represent a broader wave of companies either expanding or preparing significant Bitcoin treasury strategies.
