Hunter Biden says LAPTOP was built with tokenomics opposite to Trump family memecoins

Hunter Biden said his LAPTOP memecoin was structured as the opposite of the Trump family’s memecoins, arguing that the project was designed to show a token launch could be done “the right way.” Speaking on the Unchained Podcast on Wednesday, Biden said insiders hold 30% of LAPTOP’s supply, versus what he described as 80% for the Trump tokens, and said half of LAPTOP’s allocation goes to the community. He also said the founder tokens have never moved and will not move, and that no money has left the foundation for insiders. Unchained reviewed Base blockchain data showing that two wallets were each funded with 300 million LAPTOP before launch, matching two allocations disclosed by the project: a founder share and a predictions pool whose tokens are burned when certain real-world predictions come true. One wallet has not moved any tokens, while the other sent 17.5 million tokens, or 1.75% of supply, to a burn address. The outlet said it could not confirm which wallet corresponds to which allocation or who controls them. Biden also addressed LAPTOP’s launch-day trading. The token has fallen more than 99% from its Sept. 9 peak on Base and was trading near $0.079 on Wednesday, above its planned $0.05 launch price. He said one of the project’s three market makers seeded the launch pool with about 29,000 tokens instead of 5 million, which he said briefly pushed the token from a $50 million fully diluted valuation to a $317 billion market cap within a minute.

California bars public officials from issuing memecoins as Newsom targets Trump

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed AB 2409, a new law that bars the state’s public officials from issuing memecoins. The measure was enacted as part of an 11-bill package focused on corruption, consumer protection and cryptocurrency-related crime. Newsom’s office framed the signing in explicitly political terms, using the phrase “THE OPPOSITE OF TRUMP” and tying the law to criticism of President Donald Trump and the $TRUMP token. In a press release, Newsom said public officials should not profit from their office and said California was tightening protections to prevent that from happening in the state. The report also notes that it remains unclear whether the ban applies to memecoins already in circulation, including $TRUMP. CoinDesk said Trump’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The article also revisits the trading history of $TRUMP, including its rapid rise, steep collapse, holder losses tracked by Nansen, Trump’s disclosed royalty income, and the share of token supply held by Trump Organization affiliates.

Two highly profitable Artificial Inu wallets rotate into musebook, posting about $13,800 in unrealized gains

GMGN data tracked a sharp divergence between two Robinhood on-chain tokens over the past 24 hours. Artificial Inu (AI), paired with NVDA, fell about 13.29% and stood at a market capitalization of roughly $234 million. Over the same period, musebook, paired with META, climbed about 265.25%, lifting its market value to around $24 million. During that move, two wallets that had previously generated a combined profit of about $1.3829 million on AI opened fresh musebook positions worth about $25,200 in total. As of publication, those new positions were showing combined unrealized gains of about $13,800. One wallet beginning with 0xa581 spent about $21,500 across four trades to buy roughly 125.33 million musebook tokens, while another beginning with 0x1bd5 re-entered the token with about $3,709 across four trades after having fully exited on Sept. 19. BlockBeats noted that Memecoin trading is highly volatile and often driven by market sentiment and narrative speculation, warning investors to pay attention to risk.

Visa moves to stop Crossmint from coding memecoin purchases as digital media

Visa is moving to restrict stablecoin infrastructure firm Crossmint from classifying memecoin purchases under merchant category code 5815, a code typically used for digital media such as streaming video and audiobooks. According to a report by The Block, the setup, used with payment processor Checkout.com, allowed some consumers to buy memecoins with credit cards while still earning standard spending rewards or cash back, instead of being treated under the tighter rules that usually apply to crypto transactions. Crossmint told The Block that it maintains strong working relationships with Visa, Mastercard, and its payment partners, and said its approach to handling digital goods has not changed. The company added that if policies are updated, its processes will be updated as well. Crossmint had cited guidance from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in arguing that some memecoins resemble collectibles, but payments specialists said legal interpretations from regulators are not the same as card-network transaction classification rules. The report said financial institutions including Chase have viewed the classification as inappropriate, while the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James has opened an investigation into the related business. After a grace period, Visa is expected to enforce standard crypto-asset processing rules for these transactions. GENIUS and DEGEN tokens have already stopped supporting Apple Pay. Mastercard has not said whether it will take similar action.

Visa to close memecoin rewards loophole previously reported by The Block

Visa said it will shut down a loophole that allowed users to earn rewards through memecoins, according to a Techub News brief citing Crypto Briefing. The issue had previously been reported by The Block and was described as a potential source of financial risk. Visa said the move is intended to tighten oversight of digital transactions and reduce possible financial risk exposure. The update centers on a specific rewards-related weakness rather than a broader product launch or policy rollout. No additional operational details, timeline, or affected services were disclosed in the brief. The report frames the decision as part of Visa’s effort to strengthen controls around digital transaction activity.

ChainFeeds roundup spotlights LAPTOP memecoin backlash, OpenAI math claim, and Pantera’s compute market thesis

ChainFeeds published a new "VC Talk" roundup on Sept. 13, collecting recent views and research items circulating among crypto venture investors and market participants. The piece highlights two discussion threads: the controversy around the Hunter Biden-themed memecoin LAPTOP, and the debate sparked after OpenAI claimed AI had solved the Navier-Stokes equation, one of the Millennium Prize Problems. It also lists fresh research from Pantera Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, or a16z, and provides a snapshot of primary market fundraising activity. On the memecoin side, the article cites comments from 1kx’s Nick Tomaino, DeFiance Capital’s Arthur, and Amber Group’s Lao Bai. Tomaino contrasted the industry’s reaction to a Trump memecoin launched on Jan. 17, 2025 with criticism directed this week at a Biden-themed token. Arthur questioned why public figures appear willing to damage their reputations to issue celebrity memecoins, while Lao Bai argued that weak liquidity leaves little room for more small-cap token speculation. The roundup also says 12 public fundraising deals were disclosed between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6, with total funding exceeding $580 million.

LAPTOP team blames sniper bots and thin liquidity for token’s 99% first-day plunge

The team behind Hunter Biden-linked memecoin LAPTOP said automated sniper bots and weak starting liquidity drove the token’s violent first-day move on Base, where it briefly traded above $300 before losing more than 99% of its value in about an hour, according to DexScreener data. In a Wednesday post, the project said the initial pool opened at $0.05 per token and quickly ran into demand that its market maker could not meet, leaving the launch vulnerable to bots targeting low-priced assets in newly created pools. The team said it will deploy 4 million tokens, equal to 0.4% of total supply, to incentivize liquidity on Aerodrome beginning at midnight UTC on Sept. 10. It also said two prediction-linked events had already resolved yes, leading to the burn of 10 million tokens and reducing circulating supply by 1% during the first week. Bubblemaps said about 80% of LAPTOP traders lost money, while many large holders appeared to be newly funded wallets with no prior onchain history. The team also defended the token’s positioning as an anti-TRUMP launch, pointing to the absence of a presale, no influencer allocations, a Hacken audit, a MiCA whitepaper filed with the Dutch AFM, and founder tokens locked in Coinbase Custody.

Hunter Biden says he made no money from LAPTOP as token crash draws scrutiny

Hunter Biden said he did not profit from the Base memecoin LAPTOP after the token lost more than 95% of its value in the first hour of trading, triggering accusations of a rug pull from several X users. Biden said his team’s allocation was locked and that neither he nor anyone on his side had sold tokens. He blamed the launch-day price action on thin liquidity and trading bots known as snipers. The LAPTOP team later defended the rollout, saying there was no presale and no allocations for investors or influencers. It said the contract address, token allocations, Hacken audit and white paper had all been published before trading started. The team also announced 4 million tokens in liquidity incentives for Aerodrome pools and a plan to burn 10 million tokens in the first week through its predictions program. Onchain data added to the controversy. Nansen told Cointelegraph that one wallet was sitting on an unrealized loss of $117,800, while another was down $12,300 on paper. Bubblemaps said 60% of the token’s top-holder wallets were fresh addresses with no prior activity, later defining fresh wallets as those funded within the previous 10 days, with most funded on launch day.
