x402 tops roughly 155.6 million transactions since launch, but the case for durable agent demand is still being tested

PANews reviewed adoption data for x402, the protocol launched by Coinbase Developer Platform on May 6, 2025 to revive HTTP 402 Payment Required as a native payment flow for software. The article says x402 has moved beyond the demo stage, with several visible usage signals across different datasets: Chainalysis said cumulative x402 transactions on Base had passed 100 million as of June 2026; Agent Economy’s cross-chain tracker showed about 155.6 million transactions and roughly $40.97 million in settled stablecoin volume around July 10, 2026 UTC; and x402scan, viewed on July 11, 2026, showed about 16.24 million indexed transactions, around 837,500 USDC in total amount, about 67,000 unique buyers and roughly 39,600 unique sellers within its visible range. The report argues those figures show x402 is no longer just a protocol experiment, but they do not prove that agentic payments have reached mature, large-scale commercial adoption. A meaningful share of early activity may have come from campaigns such as PING, developer testing, stress tests, bot activity or one-off experiments rather than persistent enterprise workflows. The article says the more important signal is the transaction shape x402 enables: software can see a price inside an HTTP request, pay, and receive access to an API, dataset, model call or tool result without a human checkout flow. It also points to real-world categories already forming around APIs, data endpoints, infrastructure gateways, wallets, SDKs and incentive-driven experiments, while warning that spending policy, audit trails, refunds, dispute handling and human approval remain unresolved parts of the stack.

Markets are heading into a packed week from July 27 to Aug. 2, with monetary policy decisions, major U.S. earnings, crypto distributions, token unlocks and a growing list of project shutdowns all landing within a few days of each other. The U.S. Federal Reserve is scheduled to release its FOMC rate decision at 02:00 on July 30, followed by a press conference by Fed Chair Waller at 02:30, while the Bank of England will announce its own decision, minutes and monetary policy report later the same day. On the crypto side, FTX said it will begin its fifth round of distributions on July 31, sending roughly $900 million to eligible claim holders under the reorganization plan, while eligible preferred shareholders are set to receive a second payment. Coinbase plans to suspend Across Protocol (ACX) trading on July 28. Polygon’s Ithaca hard fork is expected to go live on mainnet on July 29, and Binance said it will suspend POL deposits and withdrawals ahead of the upgrade. At the same time, several crypto platforms and products are winding down or closing. The list includes Tropykus, Dango, Odos, Pingu Exchange, YGG Play, Zero Network, Oxium, Exchange Art, Moonbeam-related bridge access, and SBI Crypto’s bitcoin mining pool. EthSystems launches for institutional Ethereum privacy as South Korea plans talks on single-stock leveraged ETF risks

A fresh roundup from ChainCatcher put institutional blockchain adoption, regulation and macro expectations at the center of the crypto market’s latest cycle. The biggest headline was the formal launch of EthSystems, a company focused on Ethereum privacy infrastructure for banks, asset managers and other regulated institutions. The startup said it was formed by the core team behind the Ethereum Foundation’s Institutional Privacy Task Force and has backing from ecosystem supporters including Bitmine, Sharplink Gaming and Joe Lubin. Its pitch is straightforward: institutions need privacy controls, compliance compatibility and selective disclosure before they can use Ethereum at scale for financial transactions. Regulatory attention is also rising in traditional markets. According to The Korea Times, South Korea’s finance ministry, Financial Services Commission, Financial Supervisory Service and central bank will meet on Thursday under the government’s “F4” framework to discuss risks tied to single-stock leveraged ETFs. Officials are weighing measures such as higher margin requirements, daily price-limit changes and leverage adjustments, though no final policy line has been set. Across the broader market, Wintermute and Coinbase Institutional both described bitcoin as relatively resilient in the face of geopolitical shocks and tightening rate expectations. Stablecoin supply has also pulled back by roughly $10 billion from its May 2026 peak, but the decline remains far smaller than the contraction seen during the 2022 bear market. The update also covered ETF flows, fundraising, DeFi security, US policy signals and several institutional crypto developments.
