Korea’s sovereign fund KIC discloses first Circle stake as Robinhood overtakes Coinbase in crypto-linked holdings

Korea Investment Corporation, the South Korean sovereign wealth fund managing about $232 billion, disclosed a first-time position in Circle in its latest second-quarter 13F filing submitted on Aug. 12. As of June 30, KIC held 65,443 shares of the stablecoin issuer, valued at about $4.099 million. The filing also showed a reshuffle across its crypto-linked U.S. equity book: Robinhood was increased by 32.5%, while Coinbase was cut by 16.8%, allowing Robinhood to move into the top spot by market value. The report drew a distinction between headline changes in market value and actual changes in share count. Riot Platforms showed a 70% increase in position value, but KIC had in fact reduced its share count by 23%, with the gain driven by RIOT’s stock rally. Strategy’s reported value fell 32%, though KIC sold only 2,557 shares, or 3%. Coinbase was the clearest outright trim, with both share count and stock price declining during the quarter. KIC also added to Block and IREN Limited. Including IREN and the new Circle position, the fund’s crypto-related holdings rose from $135 million in the first quarter to $178 million in the second quarter, according to the source report.

Stocks Slip Ahead of CPI as CoreWeave and Lumentum Results Lift AI Trade

U.S. stocks closed lower for a second straight session as investors waited for July CPI data, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.34%, the S&P 500 off 0.32%, and the Nasdaq falling 0.6%. The market tone turned cautious as a standoff around the Strait of Hormuz kept oil elevated and Federal Reserve officials delivered fresh hawkish comments, leaving traders roughly split on whether the Fed could raise rates in September or stay on hold. At the same time, leadership inside technology stocks continued to fracture. Mega-cap names broadly weighed on indexes, while semiconductors, storage, optical networking, AI cloud infrastructure, and alternative asset managers outperformed. Strong earnings and guidance from CoreWeave, Lumentum, and Super Micro Computer fueled gains across AI infrastructure names, while Nvidia steadied after Jensen Huang addressed concerns tied to a newly announced $500 billion compute financing platform. The session also highlighted rising overlap between AI infrastructure and financial markets. CME plans to launch H100 and B200 GPU compute futures on Oct. 5, while lawmakers in Washington stepped up pressure on OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta over AI development. Investors are now watching CPI, energy reports from EIA, OPEC, and IEA, earnings from Cisco, Coherent, and Cerebras, and Google’s upcoming product event for the next move across rates, oil, and AI-linked equities.

Serenity: Most AI Data Center Names to See Revenue Inflection in H2 2027

Serenity said on Aug 11 that Riot Platforms (RIOT) has signed a $9.1 billion, 20-year deal with Anthropic, with total value potentially reaching $16.1 billion if all extension options are exercised. AMD has exercised an option to expand its existing Riot collaboration, and Riot has signed a letter of intent with a potential tenant for another 1GW campus. Serenity sees revenue inflection points for most data center hosting stocks clustering in H2 2027, with Riot-Anthropic's initial 96MW delivery slated for December 2027 and AMD-related 50MW fully online by May 2027. It also finds it interesting that ex-Bitcoin miners like IREN are evolving into AI data center and compute infrastructure providers.
