Riot Platforms shares rose ~8% after AMD exercised an option to double contracted capacity to 50MW at its Texas campus, with potential to reach 150MW. The 10-year deal could generate $636 million. Riot also refinanced its Coinbase credit facility, cutting rate to 6.15% and freeing 1,544 BTC collateral.

Riot Platforms said it sold 3,778 bitcoin in the first quarter of 2026 for $289.5 million in net proceeds, using the funds for liquidity, operating costs, capital spending, and data center expansion.

Bitcoin slipped to $69,917, pushing the Fear and Greed Index to 11. Crypto assets and metals fell while U.S. equities held firm. MSTR dropped 5%, AI miners were mixed.

Goldman Sachs' Q1 13F filing shows it fully exited ~$154M XRP ETFs and all Solana ETF positions, trimmed Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF holdings (Ethereum down 70%), and boosted Circle (+249%) and Galaxy Digital (+205%) stakes, signaling a pivot from crypto funds to stocks.

Bitcoin's hashrate has fallen roughly 15% from its October peak, with miner capitulation now stretching into nearly 60 days. Glassnode's Hash Ribbon metric inverted on Nov. 29, while VanEck notes such stress has historically preceded price rallies. The next difficulty adjustment is expected to cut 4% on Jan. 22.

The U.S. Treasury recommended a digital-asset-specific law allowing exchanges to temporarily freeze funds linked to suspected illegal activity without a court order, as part of a March 2026 report under the GENIUS Act. It also urged clearer DeFi AML rules and addressed mixer risks.

U.S. stocks ended the session lower, with all three major indexes in the red and the Nasdaq posting the sharpest decline. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.97% and was down 1.13% for July, while the S&P 500 lost 1.21% on the day and 1.00% for the month. The Nasdaq dropped 2.15%, bringing its July decline to 3.47%. Gold- and silver-linked names also sold off broadly. First Majestic Silver (AG) fell 4.94%, Coeur Mining (CDE) lost 3.76%, the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dropped 3.47%, VanEck Gold Miners ETF (GDX) fell 2.19%, SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) declined 2.00%, and Barrick Gold (GOLD) slipped 1.72%. Crypto-related stocks showed mixed performance. Hut 8 (HUT), Cipher Mining (CIFR), MARA Holdings (MARA), Riot Platforms (RIOT), and CleanSpark (CLSK) all advanced. On the losing side, Strategy (MSTR), Bitmine (BMNR), Circle (CRCL), Bit Brother (BTBT), and Coinbase (COIN) finished lower.
