TRON total transaction count tops 15 billion, joins S&P Pantera digital asset index

TRON has crossed another on-chain milestone, with TRONSCAN data showing the network’s total transaction count reached 15,005,198,021, moving past the 15 billion mark. The figure refers to the cumulative number of transactions recorded on the TRON network. The update comes as TRON was also recently added to the S&P Pantera Digital Asset Index. The index evaluates blockchain networks using measures including protocol utility, on-chain liquidity, and network activity. According to the same release, TRON now has 390 million total accounts, while total value locked, or TVL, is above $26.9 billion. The inclusion in the index and the latest network data were presented as signs of TRON’s growing scale and ecosystem presence.

Coldcard seed-generation flaw linked to 594 BTC drained in 25 minutes

Coinkite has confirmed a seed-generation flaw affecting parts of the Coldcard hardware-wallet line, after on-chain analysts tracked the theft of 594.48 BTC in a burst of transactions completed within roughly 25 minutes. The incident involved 1,324 UTXOs swept through 500 transactions across a three-block window, with the funds taken from about 500 single-signature addresses. Security researchers said the issue traces back to firmware changes introduced in March 2021 that accidentally disabled the secure chip’s hardware random-number generator, leaving key generation to rely on predictable inputs such as a chip serial number and clock registers. Coinkite first focused its warning on the Mk3, then later expanded the affected scope to include older firmware on the Mk4, Mk5 and Q. The company said users should not wait for a firmware update and should move funds by creating a new seed on an unaffected device, verifying backups, testing with a small transaction and then transferring the full balance. Devices including TAPSIGNER, OPENDIME and SATSCARD were said to be outside the affected codebase.

CFA Report Estimates Americans Lost $80.7 Billion to Crypto Scams in 2025

A new report from the Consumer Federation of America estimates that Americans lost $80.7 billion to cryptocurrency-related scams and cybercrime in 2025, with crypto making up more than half of all scam and cybercrime losses. The estimate starts with FBI data showing $11.37 billion in crypto scam losses reported last year, up 22% from 2024, then applies a 7.1x multiplier based on a 2017 Bureau of Justice Statistics survey that found only 14% of fraud victims report incidents to law enforcement. CFA describes that multiplier as conservative. Investment fraud remained the largest category, with $8.6 billion reported and $61.4 billion estimated, up 32% year over year. The group also said Americans over 60 lost $4.4 billion to crypto fraud alone, nearly 40% of the total, while the FBI separately logged $893 million in AI-enabled crime across 22,364 complaints for the first time. The report also points to enforcement action, platform accountability, and pending U.S. legislation aimed at fraudulent online advertising.

OpenAI open-sources Codex Security tooling layer, detailing setup, scans, CI integration and cost pitfalls

OpenAI has released the GitHub repository for Codex Security under the Apache-2.0 license, but the open-source code covers only the tooling layer used to trigger scans, manage findings and integrate with CI. The underlying service that reads code, reproduces vulnerabilities in isolated environments and generates patches still runs on OpenAI’s own servers, so access still requires an OpenAI login and Codex Security permissions. According to the documentation cited in the source article, Codex Security remains in research preview and is available to ChatGPT Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise users, with some enterprise accounts also needing admin approval. The article walks through environment requirements, install commands, dry-run validation, model configuration, SARIF export and CI usage, then highlights five common pitfalls: max-cost not acting as a hard cap, output directories being blocked if placed inside a repository, API keys taking precedence over ChatGPT login in non-interactive contexts, Python 3.10 needing tomli, and MCP being limited to read-only metadata rather than live scans. It also covers local scan history in SQLite, false-positive handling, scan comparison, batch scanning across GitHub repositories, and the related TypeScript SDK APIs.

SCAN 2026 opens qualifier registration with 2 BTC total prize pool

SCAN 2026, a digital asset tracing competition with a total prize pool of 2 BTC, opened qualifier registration at 12:00 p.m. Korea time on July 27. The event is being held as an official side event of KBW2026 with Upbit. According to Digital Asset, registration for the qualifier runs from July 27 at 12:00 p.m. to August 3 at 9:00 a.m. Korea time. The online qualifier will begin at 9:00 a.m. on August 2 and run for 24 hours, with the top 20 teams advancing to the final on September 28 at Monaco Space in Seocho-gu, Seoul. SCAN, short for Secure Crypto Asset Network, is designed as a hands-on competition for professionals focused on digital asset tracing and security. Unlike traditional cybersecurity CTF events centered on vulnerability analysis and system penetration, SCAN evaluates on-chain data analysis, transaction flow tracing, wallet behavior pattern identification, and blockchain forensic analysis. The event is hosted by digital asset information company D.ASSET, with blockchain data analytics platform Chainalysis serving as the CTF partner. Each team can include up to four members.
