ESMA updates Q&As on market structure, market abuse and short selling

The European Securities and Markets Authority has updated its Q&A documents covering MiFID II market structure, the Market Abuse Regulation and the Short Selling Regulation. The move forms part of ESMA’s broader simplification and burden-reduction initiative. According to the Techub News digest, the regulator removed guidance it considers outdated, duplicative or no longer relevant. ESMA said the purpose of the revision is to cut unnecessary complexity, withdraw obsolete guidance and keep its Q&A documents aligned with the current legislative framework. The update is also intended to ensure the documents remain relevant, proportionate and consistent with existing rules.

Stablecoin Exchange Net Inflow Turns Positive After 113 Days of Outflows, Liquidity Signal Neutral

CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler Jr. noted that the 30-day net flow of stablecoins on exchanges turned positive on September 1 after 113 consecutive days of net outflows, but the inflow quickly dropped by 51% in two days. Meanwhile, Bitcoin's stablecoin supply ratio (SSR) fell from August highs, indicating improving but not yet significant stablecoin purchasing power. The market signal remains neutral, warranting further observation of inflow persistence.

Stablecoin Net Flow Turns Positive After 113 Days, but Momentum Fades

CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler Jr. reported that the 30-day average net flow of stablecoins turned positive on September 1 with +$13.85 million, ending 113 consecutive days of net outflows since May 11. However, the reading dropped 51% over the next two days to $6.85 million, indicating weakening momentum. The stablecoin supply ratio (SSR) fell from its August 26 peak, but three oscillators remain above zero, suggesting relative buying power has recovered but is still below recent norms. Adler cautioned that the current signal is more indicative of the end of net outflows rather than a confirmed sustained inflow. A full liquidity reversal requires sustained positive net flows on exchanges and further decline in SSR oscillators into neutral territory. The primary risk is a return to negative net flows.

Bitcoin nears $70,000 as larger U.S. Treasury buybacks lift liquidity expectations

Bitcoin jumped after the U.S. stock market open on Wednesday, briefly reaching $69,749, its highest level since June 2, with intraday gains of about 6%, according to Cointelegraph. The move followed a U.S. Treasury decision to expand the size of long-dated bond buybacks starting Sept. 9, raising the cap for each operation from $2 billion to at least $4 billion. Markets took the step as added liquidity support for the long-end Treasury market, helping risk assets broadly. The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield then fell about 9 basis points to 5.19% from levels near a two-decade high. The Treasury said the larger buybacks are intended to meet persistent investor demand in the long-term Treasury market and improve market liquidity. Still, Bitfinex said Bitcoin’s rebound continues to face limits from weak stablecoin liquidity. Exchange stablecoin supply has dropped by about $14 billion since May, while the stablecoin supply ratio, or SSR, climbed from 9.82 on June 30 to 11.69, pointing to a still-tight funding backdrop for crypto.
