Sony launches global onchain entertainment incubator with Soneium at the center

Sony Group has rolled out a global onchain entertainment incubation program centered on Soneium, its Ethereum Layer 2 network, and opened applications to developers building consumer-facing entertainment products. The program targets independent creators and startups worldwide, with applications running from October through the end of December and screening and review expected to continue until March 2027. Sony said the new push builds on experience from two earlier incubation cycles that supported 43 projects since 2024. This time, the company is pairing infrastructure access with coordination across its music, film, gaming and broader business units. According to the report, selected teams may explore onchain use cases tied to entertainment IP and receive support in areas including business development, global marketing, community bootstrapping and early-stage fundraising. Sony framed the initiative as a step beyond technical validation, with a stated focus on helping Web3 entertainment products move toward commercial deployment at scale.

Soneium opens royalty vault with a $600,000 launch cap

Soneium has opened a royalty vault with a $600,000 launch cap, according to TheDefiant. The report says holding ipUSD by itself does not give investors exposure to royalties. Instead, investors receive separate vault shares after settlement. It also notes that standard exits are not immediate and can take months to complete. The update outlines the product’s basic structure and makes clear that ipUSD holdings and royalty exposure are treated separately within the setup.

Sony-backed Soneium plans token launch as it shifts toward tokenized IP and entertainment finance

Sony-backed Ethereum Layer 2 network Soneium has unveiled plans to issue its native token, SONEIUM, alongside a broader push into tokenized intellectual property, royalty-linked products, and entertainment financing. The move marks a strategic shift for the network, which had previously focused more on games, anime, music, and consumer-facing Web3 applications since its mainnet launch in January 2025. The new framework centers on three product lines: IP Token for creators and individual works, IP Vault for royalty-based investment exposure, and IP Bond for tokenized debt tied to concerts, music production, and other entertainment projects. Soneium has already announced that its IP Vault and stablecoin ipUSD will be used to give eligible users access to a $549 million royalty fund managed by Partners Group and tokenized by Asseto, with underlying assets including works by The Weeknd and Discovery’s television catalog. The strategy comes as Soneium’s on-chain activity has weakened from earlier highs. According to figures cited in the announcement and DefiLlama data referenced in the source report, the network’s daily transactions, active addresses, TVL, stablecoin supply, and DEX volume have all fallen well below prior peak levels. The question now is whether Soneium can use its entertainment-industry ties to build a durable link between real-world media revenue and on-chain capital.

ChainCatcher roundup: Korean retail traders pile back into leveraged chip bets as Goldman sees a Fed pause in October

ChainCatcher’s Oct. 27 roundup pulled together a wide set of market, regulatory, corporate and security developments from the past 24 hours. One of the biggest themes was a renewed risk appetite among Korean retail investors after a sharp local equity sell-off. Data cited in the report showed net buying in leveraged products tied to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, while Korean investors also bought $3.54764 billion of SOXL, equal to about KRW 4.7041 trillion and 73.9% of their net U.S. stock purchases during the period. The digest also highlighted Goldman Sachs’ latest Fed call. The bank expects the Federal Reserve to leave rates unchanged at its October meeting, while keeping open the possibility of one final hike in December. Goldman said tighter financial conditions since September were not enough to substitute for another increase. Elsewhere, Anthropic could publicly file its IPO prospectus as soon as Oct. 26 U.S. time, with a mid-November listing plan under discussion. Electrum disclosed and patched a malicious-server attack tied to fee-bumping transactions in version 4.8.3. California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation also pushed back against the SEC’s proposed "Regulation Crypto Assets," arguing that the plan could weaken investor protections and limit state-level review of token issuers.

Sony-backed Soneium outlines $SONEIUM token plan centered on tokenized IP

Sony-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Soneium said it plans to issue a native token, $SONEIUM, as part of a broader push to connect entertainment creators, intellectual property holders, builders, fans, and investors. Announced on Oct. 26, 2026, the plan focuses on tokenized intellectual property, with products spanning royalty-backed assets, entertainment investment, and automated revenue sharing. Soneium said tokenized IP is designed to represent the future economic value of creative works on-chain, allowing creators to raise funds from fans and investors and share commercial proceeds through automated payout mechanisms. The network, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, also introduced several product components, including Soneium Portal for IP discovery, issuance, and investment, IP Vault for royalty-backed assets and indirect access to opportunities such as music catalog funds, and IP Bonds backed by entertainment businesses. Its first projects will target Asian pop culture through partnerships with Super State Holdings and DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform, including initiatives tied to Moriusa, BTOB, and Lee Chae-yeon.
