Coinbase adds Cluster Protocol to roadmap as CP pitch ties AI agents to Base

Coinbase Markets said on Aug. 17, 2026 that it had added Cluster Protocol, whose token trades under CP, to its asset listing roadmap and published the project’s Base contract address. The move put fresh attention on a project that says it is building an orchestration layer for autonomous AI workflows on Base, combining model inference, tokenized data, GPU compute and x402-based micro-payments under one settlement stack. According to the source article, Cluster routes requests to more than 500 open-source models through an OpenAI-compatible API, stores datasets on IPFS, represents ownership with ERC-721 NFTs on Base, and uses smart contracts to split revenue, with creators receiving 85%. Its browser-native product, CodeXero, is designed to let users describe an idea in natural language and deploy a dApp while consuming Cluster’s underlying services. The same article also notes a gap between the project’s narrative and disclosed activity. Cluster said it recorded 130,000 inference payment requests and $79,000 in settlements over the past 30 days, while CodeXero has connected more than 300,000 wallets and deployed more than 25,000 onchain dApps. Those figures were self-reported by the project, with no independent dashboard verification cited. Cluster has raised $7.75 million in total, including a $5 million round led by DAO5 on April 23, 2026.

US Treasury seeks public input on GENIUS stablecoin rules as Bitmine’s ETH holdings top 5.81 million

PANews’ Aug. 18 roundup put a wide range of crypto, regulatory, and AI-linked developments on the tape, led by a proposed U.S. Treasury rulemaking tied to the GENIUS Act. The Treasury said it is seeking public comment on the implementation framework for Section 3 of the law. Under the timeline described in the notice, payment stablecoin issuance in the U.S. would generally require a federal or state license starting Jan. 18, 2027, while digital asset service providers would generally be barred from offering U.S. users payment stablecoins issued by unlicensed issuers starting July 18, 2028. Public comments can be filed within 60 days after the proposal is published in the Federal Register. Elsewhere, Bitmine added 9,926 ETH last week, lifting its total holdings to more than 5.81 million ETH. Strategy said it repurchased $132.2 million of STRC and raised its U.S. dollar reserves by $149.1 million to $4.8 billion, while keeping its Bitcoin holdings unchanged at 840,447 BTC. Unitree Robotics said its shares will begin trading on Shanghai’s STAR Market on Aug. 19, with initially unrestricted float accounting for 7.44% of total post-offering shares. The daily digest also covered the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust probe into Andreessen Horowitz, Ethereum Foundation warnings tied to the coming Glamsterdam upgrade, and a slate of funding, exchange, and tokenization updates.

NEAR AI launches token staking, topping 500,000 NEAR in about two weeks

NEAR AI has rolled out a new feature called Staking for NEAR AI, letting users stake NEAR tokens in exchange for private AI compute credits. According to Techub News, the feature has attracted more than 500,000 NEAR in staked tokens roughly two weeks after launch. The minimum stake is 50 NEAR, which is enough to activate the IronClaw autonomous agent. Under the current setup, staking 500 NEAR generates about $5 in monthly compute credits, while users can withdraw their principal at any time. The protocol uses Trusted Execution Environment, or TEE, technology to protect data privacy. The staking model is designed to support the IronClaw 1.0 agent framework, which CryptoBriefing said performed strongly across several benchmark tests, including PinchBench and OfficeQA.

ChainFeeds research roundup tracks weak Bitcoin demand, Ethereum STARK debate and AI agent wallets

ChainFeeds published its Aug. 14 research roundup, pulling together five feature pieces selected from its Aug. 13 Web3 briefing. The package spans Bitcoin market structure, crypto venture and trading narratives, wallet design for AI agents, Ethereum’s long-term cryptography roadmap, and startup advice from Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan. The Bitcoin section, citing Glassnode, says BTC remains stuck between two key on-chain cost bases: the Median Realized Price near $63,000 and the Short-Term Holder Cost Basis near $68,700. Spot activity has fallen to one of the lowest levels in years, ETF demand has yet to show a convincing return, and leveraged longs in derivatives have built up ahead of a broader recovery. The report says a downside break would put focus on the June low around $58,500. Other pieces in the roundup argue that stablecoins and perpetuals remain crypto’s clearest native product-market fits, examine how products such as x402 and MetaMask Agent Wallet try to give AI agents controlled spending and execution power, and frame recursive STARK aggregation as a key tool for Ethereum’s post-quantum, privacy, and scaling agenda. The final feature highlights Garry Tan’s warning that chasing hot sectors can pull founders away from areas where they have genuine edge, while AI-driven coding is changing what counts as a durable moat.

Ondo drops its chain plan and keeps Ethereum for settlement

Ondo Finance has decided it will not run both Ondo Chain and Ondo Network in parallel, with CEO Ian De Bode confirming the company has abandoned the blockchain-based execution model and will keep Ethereum as the settlement layer instead. The revised design moves execution into trusted execution environments, where approved code runs inside hardware-isolated enclaves and key material is split across operators, while asset transfers continue to settle on Ethereum. The argument behind the shift is straightforward: for order matching, Ondo sees blockchain as an expensive bundle of consensus, replication, transparency, and final-state settlement. In its view, consensus and replication add latency, while transparency exposes information that a trading venue does not want to publish in real time. The piece contrasts this approach with examples from traditional finance and crypto, including ASX’s failed CHESS replacement, DTCC’s tokenization push, Coinbase’s Base, Robinhood’s tokenized stock effort, dYdX’s app-chain move, Hyperliquid’s validator model, and Unichain’s struggle to capture Uniswap activity. The article also notes that trusted execution environments come with their own risks. Recent hardware attacks against Intel and AMD, including the TEE.fail research, showed that physical access can break assumptions around enclave security. Ondo’s next phase will separate code attestation, key custody, and server hosting across different entities, while posting final state on-chain and adding proof-of-stake and slashing later.

NEAR AI Cloud adds Intel attestation tokens for secure AI inference checks

NEAR AI Cloud has integrated signed attestation tokens from Intel Trust Authority to add an independent verification layer for confidential AI inference requests, according to Techub, citing CryptoBriefing. The setup lets users verify the authenticity of trusted execution environments, or TEEs, through standardized tokens instead of manually parsing raw cryptographic evidence. The integration combines Intel TDX with NVIDIA confidential computing technology, covering both ends of the hardware stack used in AI inference. Data decryption keys are released only after the attestation token confirms that the computing environment has not been tampered with. The report said the move lowers the barrier for enterprises that would otherwise need to build their own verification pipelines and also supports programmatic inspection of JWT tokens through standard libraries.
