Trump says the U.S. should have the world’s lowest rates, reiterates $5,000 subsidy pledge
Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sept. 13 that the United States should have the lowest interest rates in the world and repeated his promise to distribute a $5,000 payment after the election. He said the measure should be easy for Congress to pass and added that he always keeps his promises. The remarks followed comments Trump made on Sept. 10 during the opening night of the Republican National Convention, where he said that if Republicans win both the House of Representatives and the Senate, he would issue a $5,000 dividend to every adult in the United States. In the same speech, Trump also floated several renaming ideas, including changing Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” renaming New Mexico as “New America,” and referring to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait.”
