Tether2026-10-08 03:26:14Tether signs MOU with Kazakhstan central bank to study tenge stablecoin pilotTether said on Oct. 7 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Alatau city government to study stablecoin development, asset tokenization and decentralized finance. The work includes preparing a concept and pilot proposal for a stablecoin pegged to Kazakhstan’s national currency, the tenge. According to Tether, the parties will also examine international stablecoin issuance models, define potential use cases and explore an asset-tokenization framework in Kazakhstan that could use Hadron, Tether’s tokenization platform. The plan would identify priority asset classes, design tokenization structures and launch a pilot within Alatau’s jurisdiction. The agreement also covers workshops, seminars and training programs for central bank and government personnel on global stablecoin and digital asset markets, issuance and reserve management, and the tokenization of real-world assets using distributed ledger technology. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said Kazakhstan is exploring tokenization and strategic reserve frameworks in a cautious and forward-looking way. National Bank of Kazakhstan Deputy Governor Binur Zhalenov said financial stability, transaction transparency and strong investor protection remain the central bank’s top priorities. The announcement did not provide a timeline or name an issuer for a tenge stablecoin.20
