Franco Baresi's mural outside Casa Milan in Piazza Gino Valle has been vandalised for a second time, just over two weeks after it was restored. The tribute piece was unveiled again on October 10 before being defaced once more.
Damage to the mural
According to MilanNews24, black paint was used to cover the captain’s armband and the Milan crest on the shorts of the legendary defender.
Tgcom24 reports that the European Cup Baresi is holding aloft was also blacked out.
About the artwork
The artwork in Piazza Gino Valle was created by street artist Luca Rosada, known as Lucas Street Art, as a tribute to the former Milan captain, who died at the end of July at the age of 66.
First attack and restoration
The mural was first damaged on September 27, when red spray paint was used to cover Baresi’s face. Milan worked to identify those responsible for the first damage to the mural.
Rosada then recreated the piece, producing a larger version showing the smiling legend, which was unveiled on October 10.
Reaction from Milan city council
Alessandro Giungi, a Milan city councillor, described it as "a vile and wretched gesture".
