Sports Illustrated highlighted NWSL weekend performances linked to the U.S. women’s national team, led by Croix Bethune’s record 11th assist.

Sports Illustrated assessed U.S. women’s national team-related performances from the NWSL weekend, with Croix Bethune setting a new single-season assist record in KC Current’s 2-1 home win over the Washington Spirit. The defeat knocked the Spirit out of the race for top spot.

Bethune breaks the assist mark

Bethune recorded her 11th assist of the season when she set up Vanesse DiBernardo against the Washington Spirit, giving her the most assists in a single NWSL season. She had tallied 10 assists in her rookie season in 2024 before a knee injury ended that year prematurely.

Where the record stands

Bethune overtook Tobin Heath and Cloe LaCasse as players to have reached 10 assists in an NWSL season.

Other USWNT-linked performances

Annie Karich scored her first-ever NWSL goal in Boston Legacy’s 2-2 draw against the San Diego Wave on Sunday. In 74 minutes against the San Diego Wave, she completed 93% of her 43 passes, created two chances and had two interceptions.

Gisele Thompson scored her fifth goal of the season in Angel City’s 2-0 win over Bay FC. In Bay’s 2-0 defeat, Kennedy Fuller did not attempt a shot and created one chance in 89 minutes. Pietra Tordin has eight goals and nine assists this season.

Portland beat the NC Courage 1-0. On the penultimate weekend of the season, Racing Louisville lost 6-1 away to the Denver Summit, with Emma Sears taken off after 63 minutes against Denver.
