Sports Illustrated assessed U.S. women’s national team-related performances from the NWSL weekend, with Croix Bethune setting a new single-season assist record in KC Current’s 2-1 home win over the Washington Spirit. The defeat knocked the Spirit out of the race for top spot.
Bethune breaks the assist mark
Bethune recorded her 11th assist of the season when she set up Vanesse DiBernardo against the Washington Spirit, giving her the most assists in a single NWSL season. She had tallied 10 assists in her rookie season in 2024 before a knee injury ended that year prematurely.
Where the record stands
Bethune overtook Tobin Heath and Cloe LaCasse as players to have reached 10 assists in an NWSL season.
