Cercle Brugge parted ways with head coach Lars Friis after a difficult start to the Jupiler Pro League season and announced Pedro Caixinha as the club's new head coach. The decision came right after Cercle Brugge secured its first league victory of the season, a 3-1 win against Royal Antwerp.
Friis leaves after seven months
Friis, a 50-year-old Danish manager, leaves Cercle Brugge seven months after being appointed in March. Across 17 games in charge, he managed five victories in all competitions.
League position before the change
Cercle Brugge had six points from its opening 10 matches and was second from bottom in the relegation zone.
Caixinha named new head coach
Cercle Brugge officially announced Caixinha as its new head coach on a contract valid until June 2027.
