Borussia Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park, a result that lifted them into first place in the Bundesliga standings. Nico Schlotterbeck spoke about the defensive display and the games coming up against Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.
Defense shuts down Frankfurt
Schlotterbeck delivered a standout defensive performance in the match. Alongside Waldemar Anton, Ramy Bensebaini, and Ryerson, he restricted Frankfurt to zero shots in the second half.
Speaking to Sky, Schlotterbeck said: "It was a ton of fun. We allowed a few chances in the first half, and then none whatsoever in the second half."
Clean sheets in seven games
The victory was Dortmund's fifth clean sheet in seven Bundesliga matches this term.
Schlotterbeck said: "We’ve now kept five clean sheets in seven games... The four of us in the back work really well together."
Goal and team progress
Schlotterbeck said: "Maxi put his quality on display. That shot into the far corner is his specialty. Noah had been making quality saves... but he couldn’t stop that one."
GOAL said Schlotterbeck emphasized that while Dortmund were still improving, they held high ambitions in both cup and league competitions.
The center-back said: "We're not perfect yet, but we're making progress as a team."
Upcoming matches
GOAL said Dortmund host Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal before traveling to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Schlotterbeck said: "Before that, we’re up against Bremen... The shortest path to silverware is the domestic cup."
Schlotterbeck said: "Next week, we’re off to take on Bayern. We want to play a strong game there."
