Paolo Vanoli spoke to DAZN Italia after a 2-2 draw with Atalanta, addressing the match and his team’s defending. After the result, Fiorentina, Udinese and Parma are all on five points, with Venezia on three.
How the match unfolded
Charles De Ketelaere scored as they went into the break 1-0 down. They turned it around through the Alieu Njie diving header and deflected Joao Mario effort, before Nicola Zalewski sealed the 2-2 result.
Vanoli on regret and defending
Vanoli told DAZN Italia: "The regret is that we didn’t win a game after playing very well."
He also said: "We are a team that plays well, but must learn how to defend, that is what we are lacking."
Vanoli said they have "blackouts" that are proving very costly and cannot keep conceding goals in this manner. He said the two goals were really gifted to Atalanta.
His view of the squad
Vanoli said: "This is a talented squad, that is not in doubt, but Italian football requires you to all defend together as a unit."
He also said Niccolò Fagioli being taken off at half-time was not due to fitness issues.
