Casino Rama's Fixed Location and Blackjack Surrender

The venue's fixed position, and why your starting point matters more

Casino Rama is 68.7 miles straight-line from Toronto. Straight-line means great-circle distance, the shortest path across the Earth's surface, not the route a car would take. Road distance is always longer, and this article does not publish driving mileage or travel time.

The question of whether Casino Rama offers surrender on blackjack is a table-rules question, and table rules change without notice. This article cannot confirm the current surrender rule at any specific table. What it can do is establish exactly where the venue sits, how far it is from major reference points as the crow flies, and how to confirm the blackjack rule before you travel.

Where Casino Rama sits

Casino Rama is located in the town of Rama, Ontario, on the reserve land of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. Its documented coordinates are 44.64722222 north latitude and -79.35027778 west longitude. That places it in southern Ontario, north of Lake Simcoe and northeast of the Greater Toronto Area.

The venue opened on July 31, 1996. It is jointly owned by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, with operation contracted to Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited. Publicly published reference sources document 1,800 slot machines and 50 table games at the property, though facility figures are revised as properties are rebuilt and expanded.

Straight-line distances to reference points

The table below lists every documented straight-line distance from Casino Rama to a reference point. Each measurement is great-circle, not road mileage. No driving time is implied or provided.

Why straight-line distance understates the actual trip

A great-circle line ignores everything a traveler crosses. Between Casino Rama and any reference point there are lakes, rivers, elevation changes, and a road network that rarely follows a direct path. The straight-line figure is the shortest possible surface distance, not the distance anyone will drive.

Water is the most obvious factor. Casino Rama sits north of Lake Simcoe and east of Georgian Bay. A straight line to Buffalo or Niagara Falls crosses Lake Ontario or Lake Erie, where no road exists. The road route must go around the water, adding miles. Terrain and the shape of the highway grid add more. The road network connects population centers, not arbitrary coordinate pairs, so a driver follows corridors that bend toward cities and border crossings.

Crossing an international border also changes the route. A straight line from Rama to Buffalo ignores that the border crossing must occur at a specific port of entry. The road route is constrained by where crossings exist, and by the approach roads on both sides. None of that is captured in a great-circle number.

Your location is not fixed; the venue's is

If a reader asks how far Casino Rama is from "me" or "my location," that starting point does not exist in any fixed reference set. The venue's position is fixed and documented. The reader's position is not. No article can measure a distance from an unknown origin.

The correct method is to take the venue's documented coordinates, 44.64722222 north and -79.35027778 west, and measure from your own starting point using a mapping tool. That tool will give you road distance and travel time, which this article does not. The straight-line table above gives you a sense of scale against major cities, but it is not a substitute for measuring your own route.

What to confirm before you go

The blackjack surrender rule at Casino Rama is not a fixed, published fact. Table rules vary by table, by minimum bet, and by the current operating decision of the pit. A rule that exists on one visit may not exist on the next. The only authoritative current answer is the venue itself.

Before traveling, check the venue's own table-games page or contact guest services directly. Ask specifically whether surrender is offered, and if so, whether it is late surrender or early surrender, and at which minimums. Do not rely on a third-party summary. If the rule matters to your play, confirm it on the day you plan to sit down.

Also confirm the venue's current operating status and any entry requirements. Facility figures like machine count and table count are documented at a point in time and change as properties are rebuilt. Ownership and branding of casino properties also change through sales and rebrands.
