Canadian retail trader Akshay Sapra said he made more than C$1.7 million trading AMD and NVIDIA between 2024 and 2025, then gave back nearly all of those gains through high-risk trades. According to BlockBeats, his latest setback came this year after he bet on SpaceX following its inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index. Sapra said he bought thousands of call options and thousands of shares, only to see the stock fall from $158.92 to $149.47, producing a loss of more than C$200,000 on that position alone. He then flipped bearish and bought 2,200 put options, which led to the loss of most of the remaining capital, bringing his total loss for the week to more than C$350,000. Sapra also said he had previously lost nearly C$200,000 on a Beyond Meat trade and underwent a three-week treatment program for gambling addiction. He has since returned to work as a software engineer and plans to document his trading publicly on YouTube as a way to keep himself in check, though he said he still wants to continue trading.
BlockBeats reported on Aug. 31 that Canadian retail trader Akshay Sapra recently said he made more than C$1.7 million trading AMD and NVIDIA between 2024 and 2025, but later lost almost all of those gains in high-risk trades.
This year, Sapra placed a bet on SpaceX. After the company was added to the Nasdaq-100 Index, he bought thousands of call options and thousands of shares. SpaceX then fell from $158.92 to $149.47, leaving him with a loss of more than C$200,000 on that trade. He later reversed course and bought 2,200 put options, losing most of the remaining funds and taking his cumulative loss for the week to more than C$350,000.
Sapra said he had previously lost nearly C$200,000 betting on Beyond Meat and had also gone through a three-week treatment program for gambling addiction. Although he has now returned to a software engineering job and plans to document his trading publicly on YouTube to restrain his behavior, he said he still wants to keep trading and admitted that his trading activity can 「too easily slide into gambling」.
He added that he had once climbed from a negative account balance to C$350,000, only to go through a repeated cycle of making the money back and then losing it again. In his view, trading does require a degree of skill, but sustained high-risk, emotional trading can become no different from gambling.
