According to TechFlow, citing PrimeMinister.kz on June 13, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev met with Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee during his visit to Hong Kong. The discussions focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation, as well as strengthening collaboration in financial technology innovation. The central event of the visit was the “Alatau City China Roadshow” investment roundtable.

Hong Kong roundtable brings together capital and technology participants

The Alatau City China Roadshow investment roundtable attracted a number of leading investment funds, financial institutions and technology companies from Hong Kong. The meeting provided a venue for Kazakhstan’s delegation to present cooperation directions related to Alatau City, including construction participation, capital engagement and the implementation of technology-related projects.

During the meeting, the Alatau City administration signed six cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding with several international companies. ANT Digital Technologies, a subsidiary of Ant Group, will explore participation in the construction of Alatau City’s digital infrastructure and the implementation of advanced fintech solutions. The Solana Foundation reached cooperation with Alatau City on Web3 ecosystem development, blockchain technology talent training and support for technology startups.

Private equity fund plans and developer meetings advance in parallel

On the investment side, Dasco Capital and Templewater signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly establish a private equity fund. The fund is intended to focus on projects in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, with Alatau City listed as a priority investment direction. In addition to the signing of agreements, the Kazakhstan delegation also held talks with senior executives from major Hong Kong investment and development companies, including Henderson Land, Far East Consortium, Sunwah Group and Bosera Funds.

Alatau City is a new economic growth center being advanced under the instruction of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The city has a special legal regime and draws on Hong Kong’s successful experience in investor protection and international regulatory standards. The Hong Kong roadshow brought fintech, Web3, blockchain talent development, private equity investment and meetings with urban development companies into a single visit agenda.
