According to ChainCatcher, the Algorand Foundation has officially released a roadmap for quantum-resistant upgrades. The plan states that Algorand will begin a series of protocol changes in 2026 and aims to achieve network-wide “quantum security” between the end of 2027 and 2028, addressing future threats that quantum computing could pose to today’s cryptographic systems.

Migration From Accounts to Core Protocol Components

The roadmap shows that the first phase will introduce a post-quantum account system, multi-signature wallets, and staking support. These changes place the initial migration at the account, wallet, and staking layers before broader protocol-level adjustments are carried out.

In later stages, Algorand plans to gradually upgrade core protocol components and extend the cryptographic transition from the wallet layer to the underlying infrastructure. The report also states that several other public-chain ecosystems, including the Ethereum Foundation and Solana, have already begun similar research and migration planning around quantum-resistant cryptography.
