Odaily reported that the Algorand Foundation has released a roadmap for quantum-resistant upgrades. The plan calls for a series of protocol changes to begin in 2026, with the network aiming to achieve overall “quantum safety” between the end of 2027 and 2028. The roadmap is designed to address the potential threat that future quantum computing could pose to today’s cryptographic systems.

According to the roadmap, the first stage will introduce a post-quantum account system, multi-signature wallet support, and staking support. These initial steps place the upgrade at the account and wallet layer first, while also covering functions that are important to network participation and asset control.

Later stages will gradually upgrade core protocol components, with the broader objective of completing a cryptographic migration from the wallet layer to underlying infrastructure. Odaily, citing CoinDesk, also noted that several public-chain ecosystems, including the Ethereum Foundation and Solana, have already started similar research and migration planning around post-quantum cryptography.
