ChainCatcher reported that the Algorand Foundation has officially released a quantum-resistant upgrade roadmap. According to the plan, Algorand will begin a series of protocol modifications in 2026 and aims to achieve network-wide “quantum safety” between the end of 2027 and 2028. The roadmap is designed to address threats that future quantum computing could pose to existing cryptographic systems.
Account, wallet and staking support come first
The first phase of the roadmap will introduce post-quantum account systems, multisig wallets and staking support. This places the initial upgrade focus on areas directly connected to user accounts and wallet operations, while also including staking compatibility within the same phase of the transition.
Later phases will gradually upgrade core protocol components, completing a broader cryptographic migration from the wallet layer to the underlying infrastructure. The report also noted that several public-chain ecosystems, including the Ethereum Foundation and Solana, have started similar research and migration planning around quantum-resistant cryptography.
