Anthropic has widened eligibility for its Claude Startups program, removing the earlier requirement that startups secure institutional equity backing before accessing API credits and related benefits. Under the updated terms, companies can apply if they are less than five years old or have raised funding within the past two years. Anthropic says bootstrapped startups, pre-seed teams, and venture-backed companies are all eligible. Approved applicants can receive one year of free Claude Team access with up to five Premium seats, plus $1,000 in Claude API credits valid for six months. The free Team offer applies only to companies that have not previously subscribed to Team. Anthropic also introduced the Claude Startup Stack, with partners including Linear, Lovable, ElevenLabs, Granola, and Hex offering discounts and credits said to total as much as $45,000. Program members can also book one-on-one technical sessions with Anthropic’s Applied AI team and get help building Claude Marketplace connectors and plugins, as well as submitting them for review. The terms also state that while Anthropic cannot directly disclose confidential information shared during consultations and does not receive related patent or copyright licenses, it may continue using general ideas, experience, and techniques retained in employees’ unaided memories and may independently develop similar or competing technology.

Anthropic has expanded its Claude Startups program, easing the rules around who can qualify for API credits and related perks.

Under the earlier version of the program, early-stage startups could join, but companies needed institutional equity funding to receive Claude API credits and additional benefits. Anthropic has now changed that standard. A company can apply if it is less than five years old or has raised funding within the past two years. Anthropic also states that bootstrapped startups, pre-seed companies, and venture-backed startups all fall within scope.

What approved startups receive

Companies that are accepted can use Claude Team for free for one year, with up to five Premium seats. Each company also receives $1,000 in Claude API credits, valid for six months.

The free Claude Team offer is limited to companies that have not previously subscribed to Team.

Startup Stack and partner offers

Anthropic has also launched Claude Startup Stack. Linear, Lovable, ElevenLabs, Granola, and Hex are among the companies providing discounts and credits. Anthropic says the combined value can reach as much as $45,000.

Members can also schedule one-on-one technical sessions with Anthropic’s Applied AI team. They can get support for building connectors and plugins for Claude Marketplace and for submitting them for review.

A clause on confidential information

The terms for these added benefits include a provision that may draw attention.

If a startup shares confidential information such as product architecture during consultations with Anthropic Applied AI, Anthropic cannot directly disclose that confidential information. The terms also say Anthropic does not receive any related patent or copyright license.

At the same time, Anthropic says it may continue to use general ideas, experience, and techniques retained only in employees’ memories, and the company is not restricted from independently developing similar or competing technology.
