Aptos said in a post on X that the Aptos Foundation has committed to permanently lock and stake 210 million APT, equal to about 37% of its holdings at the time the mainnet launched. The foundation said those tokens will never be sold or distributed, and that its operations will be funded through staking rewards. The disclosure follows a tokenomics reform proposal from Aptos. The proposal includes a hard cap of 2.1 billion APT, a cut in the annual staking reward rate from 5.19% to 2.6%, and a 10x increase in gas fees with all of that revenue burned. Aptos said the changes are intended to shift the token supply mechanism toward one driven by network usage. The update centers on long-term token lockup, staking-based treasury support, and a broader redesign of supply dynamics for the network.
