Binance has suspended all services in the European Union effective July 1, 2026, after failing to secure a license under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. Only withdrawal functions remain available for existing users in the region. This exit marks the first major shakeout under the MiCA framework, signaling the beginning of a compliance-driven market restructuring.
Despite significantly increasing compliance expenditures in recent years, Binance's history of regulatory infractions — including operating without proper registration and anti-money laundering deficiencies — led EU authorities to take a cautious stance and ultimately deny the license application. Following the announcement, OKX, Coinbase, and other platforms already holding MiCA licenses swiftly rolled out user migration programs, actively competing to capture Binance's retail and institutional client base within the EU. This development further accelerates the reshaping of Europe's crypto exchange landscape, as regulated players consolidate their positions while unlicensed entities face increasing barriers.
