Bitwise said Thursday it will liquidate and shut down its spot Dogecoin exchange-traded fund, BWOW, roughly 10 months after the product debuted. The fund is expected to have its last trading day on the New York Stock Exchange on Oct. 14, after which it will be liquidated in cash. According to the company, shareholders do not need to take any action.
Bitwise said the closure is meant to help the firm refine its product lineup and respond to changing investor demand. BWOW launched in November 2025 and recorded about $3 million in trading volume on its first day, but it did not return to that level afterward. Data from SoSoValue shows the fund brought in about $318,000 in net inflows last month, reversing a small outflow in July.
Spot Dogecoin ETFs first reached the U.S. market in September 2025. While the products drew attention at launch, they failed to win broad investor interest. Total trading volume for Dogecoin funds stands at about $300 million so far, trailing other altcoin ETFs including Hyperliquid at $2.1 billion, Zcash at $1.5 billion and Chainlink at $680 million.
