KB Securities said in a Sept. 11 report that Samsung Electronics could raise its share of the high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, market from 33% in the second quarter to 40% in the fourth quarter. The report attributed the projected gain mainly to HBM4, with third-quarter sales expected to increase by more than three times from the previous quarter. It also said HBM4 is likely to account for more than 60% of Samsung’s total HBM sales in the second half of the year. The report outlined Samsung’s product roadmap as well, including full-scale mass production of HBM4, HBM4E sample shipments to core customers, an HBM5 architecture built with a 1c core die and a 2-nanometer base die, and work on next-generation ZHBM. On the foundry side, KB Securities said Samsung’s 4-nanometer yield has stabilized above 80%, while 2-nanometer gate-all-around, or GAA, yield has climbed quickly to above 70%. Analyst Kim Dong-Won said the foundry business may return to profit starting in the third quarter, and stronger 2-nanometer yields could help Samsung win orders from a major U.S. customer within the year.
