Brazil’s crude oil production reached a record high in June, according to data cited by foreign media from the country’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, or ANP. Output rose about 19% from a year earlier to 4.5 million barrels per day and was roughly 4% higher than in May. Total oil and natural gas production came in at 5.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The report said rising supply from producers outside the Middle East, including Brazil, has helped soften the impact of disruptions linked to the Iran war. Increased production from Brazil and other countries has filled part of the gap left by lower exports from the Middle East.
State-controlled Petrobras was identified as the leading driver of the increase. The company has been pushing to extract as much crude as possible from its fields and to lift output from offshore platforms at Búzios and other deepwater fields above designed capacity. ANP data also showed that fields operated by Petrobras account for about 87% of Brazil’s total oil production.
