Broadcom has entered early-stage talks to arrange financing that would help OpenAI buy custom AI chips developed by the two companies, according to Bloomberg. The report said Broadcom had only recently arranged a $60 billion debt financing for Anthropic to support the buildout of its AI infrastructure and is now planning another large transaction. The Wall Street Journal separately reported that the proposed debt financing would exceed $50 billion. Apollo Global Management and Blackstone were named among the lenders in discussions. Both Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal said the talks remain preliminary. The financing effort ties into a previously announced partnership between OpenAI and Broadcom. In October 2025, the companies said OpenAI would design AI accelerators while Broadcom would handle development and deployment of the full system and networking stack. The stated goal was to deploy 10GW of custom AI accelerators, with racks expected to come online in the second half of 2026 and full deployment scheduled by the end of 2029. OpenAI also introduced Jalapeno, its first in-house inference chip developed with Broadcom, in August this year.

OpenAI and Broadcom had already set out a 10GW accelerator plan

OpenAI and Broadcom announced a strategic partnership in October 2025. Under that plan, OpenAI would design the AI accelerators, while Broadcom would develop and deploy the full systems and networking solution. The target was to deploy 10GW of custom AI accelerators, with racks expected to start coming online in the second half of 2026 and the rollout scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.

In August this year, OpenAI also introduced Jalapeno, its first in-house inference chip developed with Broadcom.
